Tashi Tagye (བཀྲ་ཤིས་རྟགས་བརྒྱད།) or Aṣṭamaṅgala refers to the Eight Signs of Auspiciousness that are associated with different parts of the Buddha’s body and also shown as Hand Implements of Eight offering Goddesses. They also symbolize auspicious topics and enlightened qualities. The signs are commonly carved, printed or painted on different surfaces in Bhutan for different purposes.

  1. The “Dharma Wheel” symbolizes the perfection of the Buddhist doctrine;
  2. The “Jeweled Parasol (Precious Umbrella)” provides protection from harmful influences;
  3. The “Auspicious Golden Fish” shows the way out of suffering;
  4. The “White Conch” is a symbol for awakening from ignorance;
  5. The “Beautiful Lotus” embodies purity and clarity;
  6. The “Eternal (Endless) Knot” symbolize infinity, simplicity,and harmony;
  7. The “Treasure& Wish-fulfilling Vase” stands for prosperity andlong life; and,
  8. The “Banner of Victory” declares the victory of knowledge over ignorance.
